Colin Dumais, Director Building Science and Technical, is a building science expert and loves to share his passion for renewable energy and energy efficiency. He has developed relevant educational curriculum and has presented many times on the topic to Universities and Colleges. Leading by example, Colin built a modern, low-energy home that is designed to be powered entirely by onsite renewables which started him down a path that changed his life. Colin believes that everyone has a right to expect a healthy home and workplace. When building his home, he became increasingly aware of the importance of good indoor air quality, and after finding and mitigating radon in his family’s home, he founded Radon West Ltd. Colin’s new passion is to design specialized radon mitigation systems that operate efficiently and economically using enhanced diagnostic methods and procedures. Colin is known nationally for his technical discipline following sound building science and engineering principles in every project. Colin is sometimes referred to as “The Radon Geek” for the scientific methods he uses to find solutions for radon issues. Colin works with the best and brightest in the industry to help raise awareness and technical ability across the country. Colin sits as a Board of Director for the Canadian Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists and has collaborated with the University of Calgary’s Robson DNA Science Centre Network for their Evict Radon awareness and mapping program. Colin has also partnered with the Center for Environmental Research and Technology, Inc. where he has co-developed radon certification training specific to Canada’s cold climate, construction codes and federal radon protocols. Colin has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Calgary, a diploma in Object Oriented Software Technology also from the University of Calgary and is one of only 20 Canadians to have achieved NABCEP certification for the design and installation of Solar PV systems. He is also, of course, CNRPP certified as a radon measurement and mitigation professional and is a certified radon trainer. Prior to Colin’s involvement in the radon industry, he has worked professionally as a Software Engineer, a Technology Specialist in the energy sector and most recently as an Environmental Policy Specialist where he influenced energy policy at the Provincial and Federal levels. |
